When one thinks of hunting caribou, Greenland is not often the first location that comes to mind. However, an exciting and high success opportunity exists in this frozen arctic wilderness. Though a bit smaller in body than their mainland cousins, the Greenland Caribou are still considered a barren ground caribou and there is a healthy population roaming these open landscapes. It is estimated that a population near 150,000 animals make this island their home.

Most caribou hunters to Greenland will hunt them in combination with a muskox, though that is not a requirement. A fall hunt will take place in August and September and will be based out of a tent camp near a lake accessed via boat or ATV. The hunting grounds will be only a short walk or ride away. For an additional cost, a helicopter can be employed to reach deeper into the Greenland arctic wilderness areas in search of the best trophies. This is a spot and stalk hunt with well over 95% of the hunters being successful. Winter hunts can be arranged in March for those that want them but most caribou will have lost their antlers by then. Some may have begun growing their new ones and it should be expected that they will very short and small.

Hunters fly into Kangerlussuaq, Greenland where they will be met by the outfitter or one of his guides. From there, they will be taken to a local hotel for the night. In the morning, they will be taken into camp to begin the hunt. On the return trip, they will be taken to the hotel again and then to the airport the next morning.
