Mountain Caribou in Northern BC

Trip Description

Pursue trophy mountain caribou in the remote Cassiar Range of northern British Columbia, where vast alpine basins, rugged ridgelines, and untouched wilderness create one of the most authentic fair-chase caribou hunts in North America. Without a doubt, this Mountain Caribou hunt ranks among the best in B.C. or anywhere, offered as a single-species hunt or added onto most other packages. September brings a major rut migration, with mature bulls averaging 350–380 B&C and the occasional giant pushing the 400 mark—many displaying striking white manes and markings back to the hip.

This is a true backcountry hunt, far from roads and crowds, accessed by horseback or on foot. Guides with deep local knowledge lead hunters into proven caribou country using strategic glassing points, mobile camps, and long days of spot-and-stalk hunting. Most bulls are taken from horseback, riding between vantage points until the right bull is found, often with animals passing within close range and offering exceptional photo opportunities. Success rates remain extremely high—often near 100%—including for hunters adding caribou onto a moose hunt.

The hunt is built on proven wilderness methods: extended glassing sessions, steady mountain travel, and a fair-chase approach that consistently produces mature, heavy-framed bulls. With excellent opportunities for moose, mountain goat, and wolf available throughout the season, the Cassiar region stands out as one of British Columbia’s leading destinations for serious, trophy-focused hunters seeking a genuine northern wilderness experience.
