Trip Description
Hunt mountain grizzly bears in one of the North’s most remote and lightly pressured regions, where vast timbered valleys, river systems, and high-elevation basins offer an ideal setting for a true wilderness bear adventure. These hunts can be taken as a dedicated spring or fall pursuit, or paired with other big-game species during the fall season. Spring hunts often take place along river corridors or deep backcountry drainages, accessed by jet boat, ATV, or snowmobile depending on snow levels, while fall hunts rely on horses, Argos, and traditional spot-and-stalk methods across expansive front-range habitat.
Grizzlies in this region grow thick, luxurious coats thanks to some of the coldest winters in the North, with hide quality that consistently stands out. Boars typically range from 7 to 9 feet, appearing in a spectrum of colors from deep chocolate to light blonde. Whether hunting them on natural food sources, glassing open mountainsides, or watching over a legally harvested gut pile in fall, each encounter is a raw, close-to-the-ground wilderness experience that demands patience, steady optics work, and moderate hiking—sometimes with snowshoes in early spring.
Success rates remain high, driven by minimal hunting pressure and the expertise of seasoned guides who know the terrain, travel routes, and seasonal patterns of these big northern bears. For hunters seeking a genuine mountain grizzly adventure—with exceptional fur quality, dramatic landscapes, and a strong chance at a mature boar—this region delivers an unforgettable hunt.
